“Selected Poems of Chris Long, Half a Century of Life’s Observations”
Some of Chris Long’s views on poetry:
As we progress through life we encounter many moods and expressions. Poetry is a way of expressing these for others to experience, and a way to record them for future recollection. A good poem implies much more than it actually says. It is larger than life and condenses much meaning into few words.
A photograph shows exactly what is there; a painting hints that there is more there than meets the eye. Poets cannot resist the challenge to attempt to paint a picture with carefully chosen words, arranged in harmonious sequences. Poetry should be to prose, what a painting is to a photograph.
